Mile High

Saturday's drive is kind of a facts-and-figures event
  • We departed Chaska MN at 8:00 am Central time Saturday and arrived in Denver at midnight Mountain time. Seventeen grueling hours. About an hour went to re-adjusting the straps as the bikes shifted slightly.
  • Chaska is about 700 feet above sea level.  Denver's elevation is 5200 feet.  The Garmin Pilot app on the iPad showed the steady climb of about ten feet per mile as we crossed Nebraska.
  • We spotted license plates from 26 states ranging from Alaska to Maryland.
  • The VW Touareg was awesome for towing a trailer.  We averaged about 15 miles per gallon, but never felt at a loss for power or control.
  • We generally rolled about 5 mph under the posted speed limits.  It felt weird to not even give a second thought to speed traps.

In addition to Marty and me, the entourage included my 16 month old Spike (Wesley) and Julie.  Julie's daughters live in Denver, so this provided the opportunity for her to see them on Mother's Day.

We checked into the Embassy Suites about 1:00 am and the valets took great care of the vehicle and trailer. They were in a well lighted and visible location, I slept well knowing that nobody would monkey with them in the shadows of the night.
